Persian Carpets

Persian Carpets are works of art. A fine Persian carpet imbues its surroundings with warmth and beauty while linkingus to the ancient past. Written documents show that the court of Cyrus the Great was covered in carpets when he founded the Persian Empire over 2,500 years ago. Since that time, the art of Persian carpet weaving has transformed through a spectrum of styles. Historically Persian Carpets were an integral part of Persian life; they were used by everyone from the nomads who utilized Persian carpets as furniture in their tents to traditional floor covering in mosques, the choice adornment of palaces by kings.

When kingdoms conquered kingdoms they used creativity and dexterity to build upon the talents of the past, achieving an exclusive level of excellence that rendered many of the masterpieces we still have with us today. Often weavers worked from memory, creating designs that were passed down through generations within a particular family making each Persian carpet a unique historic document. A single carpet could take months and even years of complex, detailed labor to create.

In addition to being beautiful works of art, Persian Carpets are a viable commodity. In Persia businessmen collect carpets as precious investments. Persian carpets of museum quality will provide an investment similar to that of a master painting, but relatively less expensive and of a more practical use. Persian carpet weaving is a craft influenced by empires, but whose art has transcended all nations. Persian carpets are appreciated globally for their fine weaving, beautiful colors and supreme tradition.
